		<description>Hi Martin,

I have read your article with great concern, because much of what you said is true and inexcusable in a country that prides itself for it`s resiliance to overcome almost insurmountable social obstacles and it`s willingness to join hands to create a future for it`s peoples in a modern world.. What has been lacking is mature leaders who have a vision to ensure that there is a secure future for everyone and not so called leaders who are just a bunch of honeysuckers who take what there is whilst there are still flowers to produce the nectar and bees to make the honey.

There are exceptions in our police force and this I want to emphasise!, It is those who have pride in the importance of their role and responsibility toward their communities. It is those members and volunteers who do not fall into the trap of self enrichment and illusion of arrogant power to themselves.

In this respect I want to underline the integrity and dedication of the Mossel Bay Police force in general and the Kwa Nonqaba SAPD in particular.

In the 20 years that I have lived in Mossel Bay I have had many contacts with the SAPD, having had many instances where I had to enlist their help and assistance with fighting petty crime, such as housebreaking, stock theft, vehicle vehicle theft, environmental crime etc in the country environment. I have always treated them with respect and praised them where praise was due. They have always helped me without fear or favour.
Last weekend the 20 odd members of the Police Forum of Kwa Nonqaba spent 2 days at Boggomsbaai being trained at. a workshop for it`s members. This was under the guidance of senior officials and included the presence of Charmaine vd Sand, Station Commander at Kwa Nonqaba as well as Constable Jika, who organised the workshop. (Photo attached) The respect shown by those present for their fellow members, for their mission in controlling crime and for their venue was really heartening and bears well for the communities which they serve. When we have people such as this we can and should take heart that not all is lost and not all police are scoundrels.
I would want to appeal to the business and private sectors in the Garden Route to get closer involved with the SAPD initiatives in their areas. Let us work with them and understand the difficulties which they have to face and how they are at times restricted to be effective, oten because we as public considers them as un educated and badly trained. Let us consult with them and involve them rather than ignore them.

Kind regards
