Highly experienced tandem skydiving operators – SkyDive Pilanesberg (CAA / ARO 0004) – will begin jumping above the Pilanesberg Game Reserve’s unique Alkaline Ring Complex from Friday, December 16.
The Alkaline Ring Complex’s crater is all that’s left of a 1.3 billion year-old volcano which once towered over the African plains – probably to a height even greater than that of Kilimanjaro. It’s considered the most unique feature of its kind in the world because it’s the most clearly defined, and because only two others exist – in Russia and Greenland.
SkyDive Pilanesberg is operated and managed by Graham Field and Mike Rumble – professional skydivers who’ve been jumping together for the past 10 years. Their skydiving and parachuting activities include parachuting displays for local and international brands; parachuting for stunts, movies and adverts; parachuting at product launches, high profile events and sports skydiving events in South Africa and internationally; competition at national and international level; and the training and progression of students.
They’ve skydived in 22 different countries across five continents, and boast 38 years of experience between them. They’ve jumped at high profile events and in exotic locations across Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and America – and they’ve even parachuted into the Arctic Circle and into the shrine of the Lord Buddha (the Borobudur Temple in Indonesia).
Since January 2010 they’ve been acting as the Drop Zone Operator (Mike) and Chief Instructor (Graham) of the very successful SkyDive Rustenburg Student Training and Sports Skydiving drop zone, using a Turbine Atlas Angel jump ship.
Whilst they’re planning to continue to train students and progress sports skydivers through SkyDive Rustenburg (which usually only operates on the weekends), they’ll be running SkyDive Pilanesberg seven days a week – from sunrise to sunset – out of Absheni Bush Camp, which is situated on the border of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, next door to the Pilanesberg Airport, and 7 km from Sun City.
“Skydiving is simply the most exhilarating thing you can do – and few places in the world can match the experience of skydiving above the Pilanesberg,” said Mike.
“You can really only fully appreciate the size and grandeur of the crater from that high in the sky.”
“Singles, couples, families, groups and team builds – everyone will be welcome to tandem skydive with SkyDive Pilanesberg,” he said.
