Specialist tourism publisher Moja Media is bristling with excitement about the take-up on the digital versions of its guidebooks, or eGuides as Moja Media has dubbed them. The eGuide version of The Star Guide, which Moja Media publishes for the Tourism Grading Council of SA, was launched in May – and had almost 30 000 page views in its first month!
The eGuides are available as free downloads on various tourism websites, including mojamedia.com, mojaheritage.co.za, joburgtourism.com and tourismgrading.co.za. They’re literally digital versions of the booklets, which users page through. On an iPad or tablet, users swipe their finger lightly to turn the page, or on a PC, use their mouse to page through the eGuide.
The eGuides were launched at Indaba, as shown on slick iPad presentations by the Moja Media team. Anyone who’s been at an international travel trade show in the past 2 years will have noticed buyers armed only with iPads, and so Moja Media are spot-on trend here.
CEO Ian Solomon remarks with excitement “We used to be a small print-based company with 2 titles. This new technology enables us to reach so many different people so quickly and easily, and we’ve blossomed now to 6 guides, various websites, eGuides and social media platforms. The printed guides are still very important for visibility, but now they’re backed by so many other platforms in the digital space.”
Ian says their development team is putting the finishing touches on apps, making it even easier for tourists on the move to have handy access on any tablet or mobile phone.
All the eGuides can be viewed on one site at mojamedia.com
