The Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa (FEDHASA) now offers members of the hospitality industry a user-friendly statistical benchmarking facility.

Hospitality Stats-on-Line, specifically designed for accommodation establishments in South Africa, is independently administered on behalf of FEDHASA by industry stalwart Peter Cumberlege and is fully automated, secure and confidential.

FEDHASA CEO Brett Dungan says there is a very definite need for reliable industry statistics relating to occupancy rates, average room rates and average revenues per available room (Revpar). “This is what Hospitality Stats-on-Line will address.  It is simple, easy to use and quick.”

Stats-on-Line will provide participating establishments with consolidated monthly reports on these statistics, nationally, provincially, per tourism region or locally. Reports will also be available by star grading.

FEDHASA members who provide their monthly statistics (occupancies and room rates) may register with Hospitality Stats-on-Line free of charge, while non-members pay an administration fee.

“The success of Hospitality Stats-on-Line is entirely in the hands of the South African accommodation owners. The greater the number of participating members the more beneficial the consolidated statistical reports will be. Only having just launched the initiative, it will take a while to build up a comprehensive and representative database of participating members.”

Cumberlege says with this in mind, they have made it as user friendly as possible with participating members only being required to download two figures once a month. “It’s as easy as that,” he says.

A further and significant benefit is the security and confidentiality of information provided by the participating members. Cumberlege says this is vital. “No one is remotely interested in providing statistical information for everyone else to view. Thanks to modern technology, we have totally overcome that challenge”.
