SPORTS EVENT LIGHTS UP THE KNYSNA OYSTER FESTIVAL

MEDIA RELEASE – IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 3 JUNE 2006 Simola Festival Nights Powered By Eveready  SPORTS EVENT LIGHTS UP THE KNYSNA OYSTER FESTIVAL

Massive interest generated at last year’s Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival has firmly fixed the Scott Night Bike and the Salomon Night Run as popular features of the Garden Route’s most popular Festival – and the good news for runners and cyclists is that Simola Golf and Country Estate has come on board as the main sponsor.

“This means that we can lay out exciting and challenging routes that’ll make good use of the beautiful countryside and the forests and fynbos around Simola,” says course designer John Collins.

Set to take place on July 4 and 5 during the Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival – and known collectively as the ‘Simola Festival Nights powered by Eveready’ – the run and the ride share the same basic structure: racing in teams of two, participants have to find their way in the dark around a pre-determined but un-marked course using a rally-style route book – and under the lights of their own headlamps.

Courses have been designed for competitive and social athletes and R30,000’s worth of prizes will be awarded in various categories.

“It’s both a serious event and an occasion for families,” says John, “and it’s perfect for serious athletes and for father-son and mother-daughter teams – and even for husbands and wives – because this type of racing tests your communications skills as much as your mental and sporting abilities.”

An event village will be set up at the start / finish area at the Simola Club House where there’ll be plenty of food and drink for spectators, supporters and competitors.

“That’s the thing about the Simola Festival Nights,” says John: “it’s a great social occasion.”

Entries for the Pro and Fun Classes of both the Salomon Night Run and the Scott Night Bike can be made on line at www.magneticsouth.net
