B&B Seal Of Insurance Adds Extra Level Of Safety To On-Line Bookings

BnB Sure, South Africa’s specialist Bed & Breakfast insurer, has announced the launch of its on-line Seal Of Insurance - a quality assurance symbol that’s designed to offer travellers and the travel trade an extra level of comfort when booking accommodation via the web.

“With more and more business going on-line, we’re finding more and more people looking for this kind of assurance,” said the company’s CEO, Dave Jack. “People want to know that the accommodation they chose is covered for any eventuality - especially when it comes to personal liability.

“It’s also a sign that the establishment is being run to the highest professional standards.”

The seal has a hyperlink to an html page that details the level of insurance the establishment holds. “All the B&Bs we insure are listed on our free booking engine, www.bnbfinder.co.za - and of course the Seal of Insurance appears on each of those listings, but the establishments are also encouraged to use it on their own web sites and wherever else they can on the web,” said Mr. Jack.

“The obvious immediate benefit is that it allows our customers to confirm their insurance cover without having to send out forms or e-mail attachments,” he said.

BnB Sure has a policy of supporting the bed and breakfast industry in many ways that aren’t directly related to insurance, and their information site, www.mybedandbreakfast.co.za is a content-rich resource that carries articles about starting, running and marketing a bed and breakfast as well as the legal requirements for the industry (covering areas as diverse as liquor licensing, black economic empowerment, VAT, insurance requirements and employment of staff). It also provides links to important industry associations and interest groups.

“We prefer to look at the bigger picture,” said Mr. Jack. “And that means taking care of both the guest house and the guest.”

He explained that, because many guests are foreign nationals, even a relatively small claim in, say, pounds sterling could be more than the average (uninsured) B&B in South Africa could withstand.

“But with proper insurance, everyone is provided for.”

The BnB Seal of Insurance certifies that the establishment carries a minimum of R30 million in liability insurance; that it will not require its guests to sign any disclaimers; that it carries insurance against food poisoning; that in the event the guesthouse is found liable for errors or omissions caused by bad advice, it is covered up to R1 million; that first aid negligence is covered and that medical malpractice is covered up to R5 million; and that the owner is covered against personal liability.

Every B&B in South Africa that’s qualified for the BnB Seal of Insurance can be found at www.bnbfinder.co.za
