100 Days of Adventure
Land Rover South Africa is looking for its champion Adventure Team.
Over the 100 days starting August 11, Land Rover owners and their friends will battle it out in Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town on the Land Rover G4 Spirit of Adventure - and, for the winning quartet, there’s a British Airways-sponsored trip to visit Land Rover headquarters in Solihull, England.
“The competition is based on the international Land Rover G4 Challenge,” said Land Rover South Africa Brand Manager Dewald van Bergen, who explained that competitors will take on seven different tasks at various secret locations.
“They’ll have to find their way around by following a rally-style route book from task to task and the challenges will test their mental and physical skills,” he said.
Tasks - for the Gauteng leg of the competition - include abseiling off the gondola of the Monte Casino balloon, precision and 4-wheel driving courses, a kayak course on a farm dam, cycling, bridge swinging and running. Each day’s racing will end with a treasure hunt for geocaches of braai equipment and ingredients - using GPSs to find the way - and a cook-off at Camp Discovery, a luxury temporary restaurant that will be set up in the bushveld just for the event.
True to the style of the G4 Challenge, each team will be provided with a bright orange, branded Land Rover Discovery 3 kitted out with Garmin GPSs, Fluid Kayaks, Scott Mountain Bikes and all the safety equipment they’ll need to get them through the day.
Land Rover Marketing Manager Willem Schoeman said that “the Spirit of Adventure is a lot less physical than the G4 Challenge but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be any less competitive - we saw this when we tested it out on a dry run last weekend. And, with prizes like a business class trip for four to England and a Garmin GPS for each of the runners-up, we expect it’s going to get pretty heated.”
